Additional Services

Beyond direct conservation and restoration treatments, we offer a range of complementary services supporting the assessment, documentation, care, and safe handling of artworks, whether in preparation for treatment, alongside it, or independently of any restoration work.

Assessment & Planning

Condition assessment

A detailed visual and technical examination of the artwork’s current state, identifying existing damage, past interventions, and areas of concern. This forms the basis for any subsequent treatment recommendations.

Conservation and restoration proposals

Following assessment, we prepare a written proposal outlining the recommended treatment approach, methods, materials, and estimated timeframe and price, allowing clients to make an informed decision before any work begins.

Examination Methods

As part of every condition assessment, we routinely carry out basic visual examination using visible light photography, raking light photography, and UV fluorescence. Providing an initial overview of the artwork’s surface condition, past interventions, and areas requiring closer attention.

Where a more detailed understanding of the artwork is required, we offer advanced examination methods upon request, priced separately: infrared reflectography, infrared photography, infrared false colour imaging, UV false colour imaging, and X-radiography. Each method reveals different information about the artwork’s structure, materials, and history, from underdrawing and earlier compositional changes, to pigment identification and previous restoration interventions. These are selected according to the specific questions the artwork raises.

Documentation

Treatment documentation

A written record of all conservation and restoration procedures carried out, including the materials, methods, and observations made throughout the process.

Photographic documentation

Standard documentation is captured using a digital camera at high resolution, in both JPEG and RAW formats. A full restoration report, available in digital or print form (price varies), includes detailed documentation of the artwork’s condition before and after treatment, as well as the processes and materials used. Photographic documentation is included automatically whenever a restoration report is requested.

Video documentation

A specific extra service available upon request. We can produce a 10-60 minute video documentary capturing different aspects of the restoration process on the requested artwork, with or without narration. Pricing varies depending on the selected features. If you allow us to share the finished video publicly through our own channels to help promote the craft of art restoration, you receive a 50% discount on the video production fee.

Preventive Care & Handling

Preventive conservation

Measures aimed at reducing the risk of future damage or deterioration, including recommendations on environmental conditions, light exposure, and ongoing care.

Advice on storage, handling and display

Guidance on the safe storage, handling, and display of artworks, tailored to the specific material, condition, and context of the piece.

Emergency Services

Immediate, first-response conservation measures for artworks affected by sudden damage, such as accidents, water exposure, or structural failure, aimed at preventing further deterioration before full treatment can be undertaken.
