Wooden Polychrome Sculptures
The conservation and restoration of wooden polychrome sculpture addresses both the structural integrity of the carved wooden support and the condition of its original polychrome surface. Treatments may include consolidation of flaking paint layers, removal of secondary layers such as aged varnishes and non-original repainting, structural stabilization of the wooden core, and reconstruction and reintegration of losses.
Each sculpture is assessed individually, with attention to distinguishing original polychromy from later additions, and with the aim of preserving material authenticity and long-term stability.
