Condition of the Artwork Before Restoration

The painting was covered with a thick layer of surface dirt. Localized losses were present in both the paint layer and the base, with areas of loose paint.

The canvas was significantly warped, with several tears or cuts. Additional localized distortions affected the painted surface, likely due to the canvas’s sensitivity to humidity or water exposure. A thick layer of dust was present on the reverse side of the canvas and within its structure.

A paper label with a signature was adhered to the back of the canvas. The stretcher was loose and lacked a spacer bar. The painting was mounted in the frame using nails, which were unsuitable.

The decorative frame had multiple minor defects, with areas where the polychromy was loose or flaking. The frame corners were not joined at a 45-degree angle, leading to instability and gaps.
